Obituary for Paula Gunn

Paula Gunn, a life-long resident of Orient Heights East Boston with brief residences in Chelsea, MA, went home to the Lord on Saturday, April 4th from Lahey Hospital following a short battle with pneumonia.

Born at the Winthrop Community Hospital to Joseph F and Maria J (Ciaramella) Gunn, Paula was the younger of two children. She is predeceased by her parents and is survived by her loving sister Valerie Gunn of Cape Neddick ME and adoring cousins of the Ciaramella, Fazio, Malley, Kusonis, Orlowski, Gunn, Silva, Powers, and Underwood families.

Paula was educated at St. Lazarus Elementary School in East Boston and Julie Billiart Central High School in the North End prior to earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation Education and her Master’s Degree in Recreational Therapy from Northeastern University’s Boston Bouve College of Health Sciences. On school breaks, she enjoyed canoeing, hiking, biking, and cross country skiing with her Bouve Buddies.

Paula had a great heart for senior citizens – she loved to make them laugh and keep them engaged – that was the catalyst for a life-long career as an Activities Director first at the Cliff House in Winthrop, then at the North End Rehabilitation and Heath Care Center, and most recently at the East Boston Neighborhood Health Care Center at the Lewis Mall.

Paula loved to travel and did so every chance she got for both business and pleasure. She especially loved traveling with her Mom riding camels in Egypt, kissing the Blarney stone in Ireland, and many other adventures including with friends and the St. Lazarus Church “traveling Seniors”. She will be missed by all.

A Memorial Service will be held at Vazza Beachwood Funeral Home in Revere, MA at a later date and announced on this website.
