Obituary for Mario Michael Modica

Mario Michael Modica, 76 years of age, of Port St. Lucie Florida, formerly of Saugus and East Boston, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Monday, October 29, 2018. He will forever be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all who knew him.

Mario was born on July 17, 1942 in Boston, MA to Joseph Modica and Rose Covotta. He attended Don Bosco High School in Boston, MA. After graduation he joined the Marines and he served in the reserves for two years. On May 5, 1963 he married the love of his life Jean Marie Lupi and have been together for fifty-five years.

Mario had a very distinguished and decorated career with the Boston Police Department. He served in several units including the Bomb Unit, Tactical Patrol Force and several districts. Mario was promoted to Detective and retired from Area A1. He was a recipient of numerous citations and commendations.

Mario enjoyed working on numerous projects around his house in Florida. He enjoyed golfing and spending quality time with his family and friends.

Mario’s dedication to his family and friends is undeniable. Especially when it comes to his six beautiful grandchildren who he loved more than words could say.

Mario is survived by his loving wife Jean (Lupi) Modica, his son George Modica and his wife Isbel of Saugus, his daughter Cindy Albanese and her husband Oto of Melrose. He will be sadly missed but never forgotten by his six grandchildren: Zoe, Alexa, Georgie, Oto, Isabella and Marco. He is also survived by many loving cousins. Mario is predeceased by his brother George Modica.

Family and friends will honor Mario’s life by gathering in Vazza’s “Beechwood” Funeral Home, 262 Beach Street REVERE on Wednesday, November 7th from 4PM to 8PM and again at 8:30AM Thursday morning before leaving in procession to Sacred Heart Church in East Boston for a Funeral Mass to be celebrated in his honor at 10AM. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett, MA.
