Dear Peter and Rich Family:
Where to begin...I have enough memories that would take forever to tell of Johnny being a protector, confidant and genuinely the most thoughtful, caring and loving friend. He would never allow anyone he cared about to want or need for anything, ever! My heart breaks for all who were blessed to be in his presence of love, loyalty, trust and any other word that defines a person as being the BEST. And now to hear of his Mom passing. I remember “MA Rich” and how much she loved her boys and adored her grandchildren. She was the matriarch extraordinaire! Always a delight...beautiful inside and out.
My heartfelt condolences to all,
Deborah Cerulli

Posted at 10:32am learn of your passing was like a gut punch that knocks the wind out of you. The news flooded me with countless memories and emotions. It took me straight back to the days of Eddie Mac’s, where we met and soon became our “stomping ground”.

You were one of a kind is an understatement. You just had this incredible energy that drew me to you. Perhaps it was your humor, albeit raunchy at times though I never cared because it was all part of your charm, your fun loving spirit or just overwhelming kindness toward me.

Or the fact that you were my protector, bodyguard as I called you. God help anyone who looked at me the wrong way because they had you to contend with! Your strength and fearlessness was evidenced almost nightly with altercations at said stomping ground. One would think with all that raucous in a place of business, we would’ve had our butts tossed out. Wrong! Management had a table reserved for us right next to the side door so when the s*** hit the fan, you could literally take it outside. Much like the one night you thought someone had knocked me down during a melee of sorts, but I was crawling on the floor looking for my pocketbook that got dragged outside because the strap was wrapped around the leg of a chair. Yup. Those were the days!

There was one night I stayed home and you called to see if I wanted anything and I said sure a pizza, but it’s really raining don’t worry about it and next thing I know is you’re at the door with a drenched pizza box, you looking no better. When asked if you wanted to come in for a slice all you said was, “Find a new friend”! We laughed about that for years.

Or the late night phone call to help my brother in Lynn who was being threatened by some thug wannabe’s. Without hesitation, you were ready, brass knuckles and all. Man, you never ceased to amaze!

And how about the months we talked about getting married? Only because as we put it, no one else will have us, might as well.  Ahhhhh...good times. Or the New Year’s  Eve you stopped by my mothers around 8, making it clear you would stay only for an hour. The sun was up when you finally said, “I  really have to go now”.

I was so flattered when you introduced me to your Mom. It was a thrill to get to know the woman you absolutely adored. I always admired your love for family. I was truly honored and blessed to call you Friend and felt privileged to get to know you on a deeper level than most back in the day. Life may have taken us in different directions, but my heart always had, still has, a very special place reserved just for YOU!!

You were the whatever kind of Friend. Whatever you want, need and whatever it took. Well beyond generous and caring!

Oh boy, I could go on and on and on, but will leave you with your song...Billy Joel’s John at the bar is a friend of mine. He gets me my drinks for free. He’s quick with a joke or to light up your smoke...Yet the best part of the song was there wasn’t any other place you would rather be. Thank you for that and so, so much more!

Rest In Peace JR. Heaven is undoubtedly a far brighter, better place now with you there. The best Guardian Angel ever!!!

Dearest Ma Rich, Peter and the entire Rich Family. My sincerest, heartfelt condolences to you all.  ❤️
