Gallo followed by a luncheon celebration of Al’s life at 12:p.m. at The Marina at the Wharf in Revere, a longtime favorite restaurant of Al & Ella. All are invited to attend.
Albert J. Gallo, 77 years of age, of Baldwinville, MA, formerly of Revere, passed away on Saturday, June 25th surrounded by family.
Devoted husband of the late Emanuella (Villa) Gallo, with whom he shared 44 years of marriage.
Loving father of, Sarah Gallo, and son in law, Allister Glenny of Amherst NH and Louise Gallo of Lynn, MA. Adoring grandfather to Giovanni, Jayden, Izabella, Dante, Lilah, and Quinn. Dear brother of sisters Diane “Chickie” Feely, and husband Paul of Reading MA and Linda Cronin, and husband Jim, of Winthrop, MA. Cherished uncle, great uncle, cousin, and friend to many.
Al was raised by his parents, Rose and Dante, in East Boston. He had fond memories of his childhood days with his sisters and cousins. He also enjoyed sharing stories of mischievous antics with his longtime East Boston friends. Though not always a diligent student, Al had an innate talent for math and physics and pursued early work as a draftsman. He met Ella, who was from the North End of Boston, at a party while they were both spending time in the White Mountains. They married a few years later in 1972. Together they purchased a home in Revere, where they raised their family. Daughter Sarah was welcomed in 1977 and daughter Louise in 1983. Al was an attentive, fun, and engaging ‘girl dad’, who loved his daughters fiercely.
Al earned his degree in mechanical engineering from Northeastern University, attending night classes while working during the day to support his family. He was employed by Stone and Webster for several years and then eventually by Raytheon. While at Raytheon, Al had the opportunity to work on projects abroad in several Asian countries, including Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and China. Though he disliked being apart from his family, Al was very proud of his accomplishments and enjoyed sharing many stories about his work and travels.
In 2005, Al and Ella moved out of the city and built a home in Baldwinville, MA, where they enjoyed peaceful views and raising their eldest grandson, Giovanni. In the years following their move, they welcomed several more grandchildren. They were doting grandparents to Lilah and Quinn, Jayden and Izabella. Al was a proud, adoring father, but his grandchildren were his greatest joy. Everyone enjoyed spending summers swimming in “Papa’s pool”.
When Ella passed away in late 2016, Al formally retired and began spending more time playing pool, a long favorite past time. He enjoyed being at the pool hall and meeting new friends. Al had a natural talent and was quickly recruited, often playing 5 nights per week. He was proud of his pool team and the many badges he earned.
Following a prolonged hospitalization in early 2022, Al spent his last few months living with his daughter, son in law, and cherished grandchildren in NH. He loved being surrounded by family and died peacefully at home on June 25.
